Can Medics perform Lung Ultrasonography under these Spectacular driving conditions?

September 22, 2017

The Stony Brook EMS & Sono Divisions challenged the SCPD driving course with 8 paramedics to test their skills in prehospital lung ultrasonography. How do driving conditions and sonographer experience affect image quality and interpretation? Check back as resident and flight physician Lauren Maloney analyzes the results of her study!

Thanks to SCPD for an epic day on the course.

Castries, Saint Lucia

December 5-7, 2017

Stony Brook Sono team including our fellows Cesar Soto & Jon Kneib, & faculty Lindsay Reardon & Mike Secko, presented a point-of-care ultrasound course to a group of physicians & surgeons of all specialities at Victoria Hospital in Castries, Saint Lucia.  Participants learned bedside scanning on the wards with consented patients with fascinating pathology. With a high volume of trauma, the hospital was an ideal resource-limited setting to realize emergent bedside diagnostic imaging skills. The teaching team included International Division faculty Cristina Hernandez, Billy Mallon, and chief resident Arie Francis. Thanks to Director Lisa Charles for organizing the course and inviting us to experience Saint Lucia!

Santiago, Chile

September 28-30, 2017

Stony Brook International & Sono Divisions participated in the largest EM conference in South America.  Lectures by Peter Viccellio, Billy Mallon, & Rolando Valenzuela were followed by a full day ultrasound conference taught by Sono faculty Lindsay Reardon, chief resident Maddy Alexeeva & senior resident Sarah Weiss. Special thanks to our Chilean colleagues and friends for the invitation & relentless dedication to building Emergency Medicine in Chile.

Stony Brook International & Sono Divisions participated in the 7th InterAmerican EM Conference in Costa Rica. The ultrasound conference included cardiac lectures by ultrasound faculty Mike Secko & Lindsay Reardon, & a full day of hands-on instruction. The group included 5 senior residents, 3 of whom went on to  become ultrasound fellows in July.

International conference presentations take tremendous energy, dedication, & preparation, and we are honored to contribute to the growth of Emergency Medicine all over the globe.
