What is So Cool About Long Island?
Stony Brook is unique from the NY city programs. Our campus is surrounded by gorgeous north and south shore beaches, state parks, and fall foliage. There are three International airports within one hour, and some of the top school systems in the country.
Suffolk County has exceptional bike trails, golf courses, farm stands, historic lighthouses, and sandy shorelines. Locals enjoy surfing, off-shore fishing, cycling, paddle boarding, sporting clays, scuba diving, kite boarding, cross country skiing, and sailing.
With easy access to everything from the famed beaches of Montauk to Brooklyn and Manhattan, we are an ideal spot for both urban and outdoors recreation.
If you want to head north, the Port Jefferson and Orient Point ferries take you across the Long Island Sound to Connecticut for easy access to Boston, Block Island, Nantucket, the Adirondacks, and the gateway to New England.
You have undoubtedly heard of the Hamptons, but the best kept secret is our North Fork Wine Trail, which holds some of the best vinyards & wineries in the country. We also have a cider house and over 3 dozen craft breweries across the Island.
If that isn’t enough, a quick trip to Penn Station on the Long Island Rail Road brings you to the world-renowned museums, restaurants, sports, concert venues, Broadway shows, and cultural events of NYC.
