Stony Brook is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Eastern Long Island and the major Tertiary Care Center servicing the 1.5 million people of Suffolk County, NY.
Our Emergency Department has a volume of ~125K and sees over 1000 full trauma activations annually.
The Stony Brook University campus is a close-knit community that houses undergraduate University, Medical School, PhD, PA/NP, and PT/OT programs.
This diversified academic arena offers residents, fellows, and faculty ceaseless opportunities for teaching and professional development.
We are constantly busy and growing: our 3-year residency program just expanded from 10 to 16 residents per class.
We have a vibrant faculty from all parts of the country, and began two new fellowship programs this year: International EM and Emergency Ultrasound.
We are Suffolk County's medical control center and work closely with both air and ground EMS. Unlike city programs, we have a large catchment area that includes urban and rural regions.
Over 80 paramedics and EMTs staff our 12 critical care ambulances and 2 medevac helicopters. Our team transports approximately 9,000 patients by ground and 450 by air per year.
